The original Patrizi family has been extinct since 1736, but the name has been carried on twice through the maternal side. Cardinal Costantino Patrizi (1798-1876) was born at Siena, the son of Giovanni, who was a hereditary standard bearer of the church and a senator of Rome. Costantino was ordained a priest in 1821.
